A quiet story I almost kept to myself

But I let go.

Hey Reader

I quietly hit publish on something that’s been with me for a long time.

Blue: A Story of Letting Go is now available.

It’s a small book. But it holds something big.

I first wrote the words three years ago and tucked them away in the Notes app on my phone. I wasn’t sure if anyone else would ever read them. It started as something personal. A quiet reminder to myself about love, loss, and the courage it takes to let go of what we wish we could keep.

Bringing it to life has been vulnerable. I’ve gone back and forth a hundred times. Had to relearn a few of the lessons inside it. Sit with the ache. Find the beauty. Open my hands again.

But I believe in this story.

And I think maybe it’s not just for me.
Maybe it’s for someone else who needs it too.

Something about it feels like it carries more wisdom than I do. Like it’s showing up at the right time, for the right people.

Maybe that’s you.
Maybe it’s someone you love.

Here’s a little more about the book:

A quiet tale of love, loss, and the courage to let go.
One rainy afternoon, a boy meets someone unexpected on his windowsill.
What begins as a simple hello becomes something much deeper, a bond that shapes his heart for years to come.
Told like a modern fable, Blue is a tender meditation on friendship, change, and the quiet strength it takes to say goodbye.

You can order Blue right here or on Amazon:

If you’ve ever had to release something or someone you loved… if you’ve sat with change you didn’t ask for… if you’ve tried to stay open when your heart wanted to close... this one is for you.

And if you’ve got something on your heart to create, I hope this nudges you too.
You never know what quiet idea might grow into something meaningful.
Don’t wait for it to be perfect.
Don’t wait until you’re sure.

Start small.
Start now.

Thanks for letting me share this with you. It means more than you know.

Now Go Create Something,

~ Mike Brennan

P.S. If Blue speaks to something inside you, I’d be so grateful if you shared it with someone else who might need it. Whether it's a parent, a friend, a teacher, or someone going through change, it was made to be passed on. 🦋

Tag. You're it. Hey Reader Remember when you were a kid, and every day felt like a big experiment? You didn’t overthink things. You just played, built, destroyed, and rebuilt until you made something awesome—or at least had fun trying. Somewhere along the way, we were told to get serious. (Insert eye-roll here.) Here’s the thing: serious is overrated. Experimentation and play are the keys to creative growth. In my book, Make Fun A Habit, I talk about how embracing a playful mindset doesn’t...

(and Making Your Own) Hey Reader You ever have one of those moments where you realize—Wow, I’m really bad at this? Yeah, me too. Hand-drawn typography was my kryptonite in art school. We had to recreate classic typefaces (Baskerville, Caslon, Helvetica—all the fancy fonts), by hand. With rulers, ink, and precision so tight it made my brain hurt (yes, making me feel like a dinosaur as this was pre-computer aided design). And guess what? I sucked at it. Smudges, spills, shaky lines—I was a...

13 years of daily art making

Thirteen years of daily art. Hey Reader Thirteen years. 4,745 consecutive days of creating something, anything, every single day. When I first started this journey, I had no idea where it would lead. I just knew I needed to find my way back to creativity, to myself. What began as a lifeline has become a lifestyle. My daily creative habit has carried me through job transitions, personal lows, family milestones, and creative highs I couldn’t have imagined. And this past year, that habit took on...
