13 Years of Daily Creativity: What I’ve Learned from Showing Up Every Day

Thirteen years of daily art.

Hey Reader

Thirteen years.

4,745 consecutive days of creating something, anything, every single day.

When I first started this journey, I had no idea where it would lead. I just knew I needed to find my way back to creativity, to myself. What began as a lifeline has become a lifestyle.

My daily creative habit has carried me through job transitions, personal lows, family milestones, and creative highs I couldn’t have imagined.

And this past year, that habit took on new shapes. Not only did I create visual art, but I also gave more space to writing, something that’s always quietly been a part of me but now asked for more room.

Every April, I mark this milestone with a visual collage (like the one above) a snapshot of a year lived creatively. But this time, the collage doesn’t tell the whole story. Some of the most powerful parts of this past year weren’t drawn or painted. They were written. Reflections, posts, stories, talks, ideas. Creativity has a way of evolving as we evolve.

And that’s the beauty of doing something every day, it doesn’t stay static. It grows as you grow.

This isn’t about perfection. Some days the work is strong. Other days it’s rushed, tired, just barely done. But it’s done. Because the power of a creative habit isn’t in the brilliance of each piece, it’s in the showing up. The becoming. The practice of leaning into who you are, even when it’s uncomfortable, inconvenient, or uninspired.

Over the years, I’ve discovered that consistency doesn’t kill creativity, it multiplies it. It shapes creative identity. It gives clarity. It builds confidence. It teaches discipline and invites play. It helps you hear your voice, and share it more boldly.

So today, I pause to look back, not to stay there, but to remember )and celebrate) where this road began and how far it’s taken me.

Year 13 was a year of expansion. A year of deeper exploration. A year that reminded me that creativity isn’t just what I do, it’s who I am.

And I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.

If you’re reading this and wondering if it’s too late to start, it’s not.

If you’re wondering if you have what it takes, you do.

Start small. Start now. Start again. But whatever you do, keep showing up.

...And the year I couldn’t. Hey Reader This month marks 14 years of my Daily Creative Habit. Fourteen years ago, I made a simple decision. Show up every day. Create something. No matter what. And for 13 straight years, I did exactly that. Every day. But year 14 looked different. This past year, life asked something else of me. In the summer, I hit a wall. Burnout. The kind that forces you to slow down whether you want to or not. And then later in the year, I had a heart attack that took me...

Keep showing up. Hey Reader Consistency does not look dramatic. It rarely feels inspiring. And it almost never shows up as a big breakthrough moment. Consistency looks like returning. Again and again. On good days and ordinary ones. Most creative people get stuck waiting for intensity. The big surge of motivation. The perfect stretch of uninterrupted time. But intensity burns hot and fast. Consistency builds quietly. The Daily Creative Habit is not about doing more. It is about doing...

Art is the bridge between what you see and what you feel. Hey Reader I experience life, create from it, and share what I discover along the way. Through art, words, and storytelling, I process what I am living and give others a way to see themselves in the work. The things I create are not just expressions of my journey, they are invitations for you to connect with your own. Whether it is a sketch, a painting, a book, or a conversation, my work is meant to help unlock ideas, feelings, and...
